Ashika Kumar is a sophomore at Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is the founder and president of the student chapter of NOW in her school. She started the club after the outcome of the 2016 presidential election because she really wanted to start advocating for women’s rights and make a change. Her chapter of NOW is one of the most popular clubs in her school’s history! At her school, she is also a journalist for the Skybox, Skyline’s newspaper. She mainly writes about feminism and social inequality. Ashika is also an intern for her local newspaper and in the summer will be interning at a women’s rights law firm. Ashika is also a member of Social Awareness, Young Democrats of America, and Junior State of America clubs at her school. Within feminism, Ashika is passionate about women having equal pay and ending body shaming. She hopes to be a part of NOW beyond high school and continue fighting for women’s rights.
