Siobhan O’Loughlin is a Brooklyn-based writer, performance artist, and activist who tours her work internationally. She is a Moth Story Slam Champion, a published playwright with Indie Theatre Now, a trained Joker with Theatre of the Oppressed NYC, a New York Innovative Theatre Award winner, a guest blogger for Broadwayworld.com, and a grant recipient of the Network of Ensemble Theatres

Solo performance is Siobhan’s main vessel of creative work. She has three full-length solo shows, The Rope in Your HandsNatural Novice, and Broken Bone Bathtub,  all of which have toured nationally across the USA, and globally throughout the UK, Ireland, Japan and the Philippines.  The Rope in Your Hands received five star reviews at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival and in Washington, DC., as well as awarded Fringe Crush in St. Louis, MO. Natural Novice was awarded Best of the Fest at Charm City Fringe Festival in Baltimore, MD, and also the recipient of the 2014 Fringe Crush award at the St Lou Fringe.  Both of these two shows have also been presented at universities, where Siobhan pairs the performance with a workshop in storytelling, civic engagement, and activism. Broken Bone Bathtub has performed sold out site specific venues all over the world, received an Outstanding Solo Performance Award from The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, and is named in the Top Ten Shows not to miss by City Pages Minneapolis, Best Performances in 2016 by DC Metro Theatre Arts, and Immersive  Theatre Shows to See by The New York Times.

As an educator, Siobhan has taught workshops for all ages all over the world, and most recently returned from a trip to Greece with Carry the Future, providing music and educational workshops for children living in refugee camps.  Her focus as a teacher is mainly on performance and expression with the use of Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. She uses this training to enhance a student’s understanding of themselves and their environment, and in what ways that enables their personal and social strength. She also founded and led a two-year course on Contact Improvisation, devising her own theories of improvised dance as a means of creating community, and teaching workshops in several different East Coast venues.

As an actor or puppeteer, Siobhan has appeared in various New York venues including the Bowery Poetry Club, Dixon Place, The Bushwick Starr, The Standard Toykraft, The Actors’ Studio, The Living Theatre, and HB studios.

Internationally, Siobhan has performed and taught in Japan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Colombia and Greece. She is a founding member of Everything is Everywhere, a four person, part Australian/part American storytelling devised theatre ensemble, which had its first residency and performance project in Manila, the Philippines, at the Karnabal Festival. Siobhan is currently working with Manila-based performance artist Issa Lopez on a new piece called Colonize(d): A Duet on Identity and Intersectionality, which is supported by a grant from the Network of Ensemble Theatres.

Siobhan is very passionate about her activism as a fusion with her art. She is wholeheartedly a member of the 99%, a devoted intersectional feminist, a vegan animal rights enthusiast, a committed bike-riding environmentalist, and an ally to the movement for queer rights and awareness. Siobhan believes that Black Lives Matter.
