We know that the Senate bill is far from what we want. But if the Senate bill fails, then there will be no Conference Committee, and therefore, ZERO opportunity to fight for a final bill that includes what we really wanted all along - a public option or an expansion of Medicare.
What is a Conference Committee? It is when top members of the Senate and House meet to merge the two very different bills into one final piece of health care reform legislation. Most importantly, it's our only and last chance to get a final bill that includes the points we DO want, while cutting out the bad stuff.
As you can see, Conference Committee is now key, but we can't get there without a Senate bill passed!
That said, the first vote for cloture (cloture = ending the debate and taking a vote on the bill) on the Senate bill is happening this Monday morning at 1:00 AM. Here's what you can do to make sure that a bill gets out of the Senate, and ready for the Conference Committee battle:
