Sign the Petition: Stop MTA Fare Hike AGAIN

Public transportation is vital to New Yorkers, connecting us to our jobs, our homes, and each other. Unfortunately, over the past several years $260 million has been diverted from transit funds. These diversions contributed to the worst metropolitan-area transit service cuts in memory, including the elimination of 36 bus routes and 570 bus stops; killing all or parts of three subway lines; and burdening millions of city and suburban riders with lengthier waits, more crowding, extra transfers and longer trips.

In addition, over the past five years, there have been three transit fare hikes, raising the cost from $76 for a 30-day unlimited MetroCard in 2007 to $104 today - and future fare hikes are expected. Last year, the WCC joined other advocacy organizations in writing Governor Cuomo to strongly urge him to sign transit "lockbox" legislation which would protect transit funds from diversion. Today, the WCC continues to fight for safe, efficient, and accessible public transportation.

If you would like to contact Governor Cuomo and urge him to stop future fare hikes and invest in public transportation, please sign this petition.
