The late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm once said, "You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering, and complaining. You make  progress by implementing ideas." This statement rings true today and  women, particularly Black women and Latinas, have a pivotal role to  play. This workshop will discuss the alarming health and socio-economic  status of Black women and Latinas, as well as their growing political  and economic influence.

The conversation will explore what New York State can do to address  discrimination based on gender. Governor Cuomo has put forward a 10  Point Women's Equality Act that could begin to reduce discrimination  against women in a number of areas.  Panelists will discuss proposals to reduce employment discrimination, housing discrimination,  discrimination against victims of domestic violence and reproductive  rights for women.

This interactive workshop will discuss the necessary action steps to develop and implement a long-term strategy to build an effective strategy to  build, expand and support a leadership pipeline at all levels for Black  women and Latinas to proactively use their political power to influence  and impact public policy and elections.
